Publicist/PR Communications Coordinator

Job description

OpenVPNĀ is looking for a full time Publicist/PR Communications Coordinator with exceptional communication and writing skills. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of PR experience, established media contacts, excellent writing skills, knowledge of media tracking/contact databases and be well versed in social media. You must be comfortable formulating though leadership commentary.


  • National and regional press pitching
  • Event press pitching
  • Writing and editing press pitches, releases and media alerts
  • Staying on top of special edition deadlines
  • Secure media attendance at events and attend when needed
  • Keeping abreast of the latest awards and entry deadlines
  • Keeping up with the latest trends and industry news
  • Proactively seek new media contacts and relationships
  • Offer creative pitch angles and actively participate in brainstorms
  • Media sampling/gifting
  • Assist with analysis of press data and create press reports
  • Seek and analyze competitor marketing and sales materials both on and offline
  • Work with various media monitoring databases (Cision)
  • Stay updated with our press team about any press releases/company news and promotions happening
  • Collaborate with the team on strategies to help grow social media accounts organically and through paid advertising
  • Must be familiar with social media tools including Canva, Later, Co-Schedule, Buffer, HootSuite, Airtable, Zapier etc. If not familiar, must be willing to learn.
  • Work directly with our Social Media and PR team
  • Attending media events to be up to date and further develop media relationships
  • Undertake daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of channel activities
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members both inside and outside of the digital marketing department, including third-party media partners and publishers
  • Identify and implement effective processes and procedures for accomplishing work
  • Hands on, persistent, and passionate attitude about making software that is elegant, effective, and simple
  • Research, digest, and develop plans to implement new industry trends
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned by peers and management


  • At least 3-5 years of PR experience and previous agency experience is required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Quarterly visits to California offices
  • Must be able to communicate through Slack, Airtable, Jira, Confluence, and Asana
  • Weekly meetings required to stay updated
  • Be proficient in English
  • Manage multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Work in environment with international objectives
  • Ability to understand issues domestically and internationally
  • Be flexible and available to interact with customers occasionally online through social media platforms
  • Be familiar with Google Docs/Drive
